Olive Oil Fraud!

Once again, it seems that FAKE olive oil is showing up on the market. The Ministry of Health announced today that the following oil, which is being sold as Extra Virgin Olive Oil, is not what it claims to be.

They tested olive oil that was found in the marketplace, that is bottled by an entity unknown to the authorities, and found that it is NOT pure olive oil, but rather, tests show that it contains some other vegetable oils (not specified). The presence of other oils renders it unfit to be sold as Olive Oil.

The oil in question is shown in these pictures, comes in 1 liter bottles, and has a best by date of 12/2018

Note: I'm ALL for finding a deal, but if you find "extra virgin olive oil" at a price that appears to good to be true, you should be suspicious.

If you want to be sure that what you're getting is pure Israeli olive oil, be sure to check the label. You can see the special symbols that are displayed HERE

I'll post more updates if more fakes are found. Be sure to follow me on Facebook so you stay in the loop!

  1. Last time this happened there was a whole research done and they found Yad Mordechai to be pure olive oil. I also trust shufersal's own brand for no particular reason other than I think they are big enough not to sell fake olive oil - no proof though.

    1. The way to know is to check carefully, as I posted in this old post: http://www.kosherfrugal.com/2013/04/olive-oil-scandal.html
I think I should add the link to the post above too!
